Around 15 armed robbers looted
four sleeper bogies of the Tata-Chhapra Express last night in Bihar's Jamui
district. They took away cash, mobile phones, jewelry, and other valuable
items.
The robbery happened a short
distance away from Kiul railway station in Jamuai, a Maoist stronghold. This
sensitive route has witnessed three similar incidents of train robbery in past
seven days.
The wronged passengers are now
alleging that the guards on duty chose to hide in place of confronting the
criminals. The Railway Police came almost 30 minutes late and fired 12 rounds
at the robbers from behind but could not manage to capture a single
robber.
On Friday, a Bihar Police jawan
was killed and another one was seriously injured in a running express train by
the robbers whom they tried to confront; incident took place in Munger district
of the state.
In another such incident, on
December 29th, a gang of looters robbed passengers in Jharkhand-bound
Patliputra Express at gun point. They stopped the trasin near Bihar-Jharkhand
border.
